SummaryCould have been a lot better!
Content
This was an obvious copycat of the Judas Priest/Ripper Owens vocalist recruitment. Why not make a movie in which someone joins the band in an unusual way? I loved the music and bought the soundtrack right away. The scene in which "Izzy" makes his debut and falls down the stairs was cool, along with several others, but I saw a lot of scenes that simply did not belong at all whatsoever(The Batmobile? get rid of it) and made the movie disjointed. It was accurate in a lot of areas as to what the 80's metal lifestyle was like and I ought to know because I was a teenager back then and the movie was OK in that respect. This was the very first movie made for 80's metal era,and if that's what your a fan of,then by all means, this movie is for you.My advice:OK to rent, but do'nt buy.

SummarySpinal Tap Part Deux
Content
A clever somewhat tongue-in-cheek film on one's fantasy in being a rock star and the grand illusion of rock 'n' roll fame.

Chris Cole (Mark Wahlberg) is a huge fan of the band Steel Dragon and is arbitrarily selected as a replacement at one of the concerts. Thrilled at the idea of becoming the lead singer of his favorite band, Chris packs his bags and goes back-stage to find his dream band to be something different than he expected. The hard touring life soon takes a toll on him and his girlfriend (Jennifer Aniston)and he has to make tough choices.

This is a fun comedy/satire of rock'n'roll fame in the glam rock scene of the big hair '80s. The film is comical but has some touching themes as well which makes it well thought out and very enjoyable.

Summarywas an ok movie but worth the watch
Content
Alot I seen in these reviews seem to rate this movie strickly on the belife it was a story about Judas Priest with the exit of Rob Halford. And yes, Im a die hard Judas Priest fanatic 'Halford days'!

Maybe it was, maybe it wasnt but still, it was an enjoyable movie, alot of truth about the behind the scence of the heavy metal lime light how it appears to be so anti corperate yet embraces it when no one is looking.

It may have had Mark Wahlburg in it however he did play a good part as a glam rocker who slowly started to see once he was actually in his dream the walls of his dream were nothing but styrofoam, just one big front. Plus you get to see him in his first debute in Steel Dragon coming out on stage looking all tough and bad and fall down a story of stairs in front of a crowded sold out arena of people. Im still laughing about that one :P

However the movie itself is entertaining and its not bad however its not *great*, but it does touch some real life elements and worth at least one watch...

Enjoy!

This is supposed to be based on the Tim "Ripper" Owens story of Judas Priest fame.

It is not.

Instead, its a bunch of tounge in cheek jokes about Rob Halford and heavy metal in general.

The end of the film pretty much pisses over the 80's and heavy metal. It gives no justice to the rock and roll lifestyle. At the end of the movie, they make it seem that alternative/grunge is the music of the future (ugh!).

For god's sake, it has Marky mark in it!!

The only cool thing about this movie is the Cameo appearances by many musicians, including Zakk Wylde. The soundtrack is also pretty good.

SummaryThoroughly entertaining
Content
This movie belongs with "The Doors," "Spinal Tap" and "8 Mile" though it is not the same as any of the others. The four would be good choices for a night of watching movies about rock.
Much to my surprise, I am a Mark Wahlberg fan when it comes to his acting career. He was also excellent in "Boogie Nights." But then again, Eminem was excellent in "8 Mile," which I also wouldn't have predicted.
The reason I'm not giving this five stars is it lacks depth and it's a bit predictable. That said, Wahlberg does his job very well & Jennifer Anniston is very good as his girlfriend. Another highlight is the manager, who is very funny. A perfect representation of a certain type of person, really, and that's coming from someone who's from Britain.
Sometimes I just want to escape & be entertained, & this movie did that for me. I liked the music, too. And the movie matched my memories of 80s metal. Not that I was ever a huge fan, but it portrayed it the way I remember it.
Not a good choice for people who are offended by language, sex or substance abuse.
