 | The director/writer behind this film was also responsible for STIR OF ECHOES, another underrated film. I think I would like to see more of his work. This film has rewatch value--worth buying. There are films with no rewatch value: may or may not be fun the first time one sees it, but the second or third time, it is terrible or at least humdrum. On the other hand, there are quality movies that can be watched multiple times and occasion increased enjoyment. SECRET WINDOW is one of those movies. I enjoyed this the first time, although I never thought that I wanted to own the DVD. However, I noticed a $10 price tag; upon watching again, I realized its worth. Those behind this film obviously put something into this, more than the desire to make money. We always know neither Johny Depp nor John Turturo will disappoint, but the story, dialogue, pacing, scoring and directing captivate and disturb. People who liked STIR OF ECHOES, THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT, TWELVE MONKEYS, MINORITY REPORT, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, THE SHINING or the like will like this film. Others, probably not so much. I HIGHLY recommend it.

 | Do any of you recall when Johnny Depp was on 21 Jump Street? All refined, and cute, playing cops and robbers. Seriously, I didn't think Depp had distance downward. Sure a handsome face that you would like in whichever peculiar film he was featured in.
Obviously, I misjudged the packaging.
Mort Rainey, a writer struggling for an idea, suggestions- something to help him get the keys clicking on his lap top. As he naps in his tattered robe, with his wild hair Mort revisits his wife and her adultery.
Mort is accosted by John Shooter, he's alleging that Mort is a plagiarist. He gives Mort the story he's written with his ending, and challenges Mort to prove who wrote which story first. Then demands that his ending is to be written, and published.
If that isn't bad enough Mort has trouble hiding the fact that he's dealing with a painful divorce. Can he alleviate the pressure by refuting Shooter's claims?
I'll admit, for a minute I was shook. As we watched this film the obvious didn't seem to fit, and just as I started to put the puzzle together the movie ran its course. The intensity alone keeps you guessing.

 | I have not read the book, but Secret Window the movie is great. It is tense, dramatic, well acted, well directed and all that - sadly the story leaves the ending basically impossible to do well. You would see him killing his wife from a mile away, and if he doesn't kill her then it's just Hollywood cheese making a happy ending. Otherwise very entertaining movie.

 | After Johnny Depp shot to Mainstream movie stardom as swashbuckler Captain Jack Sparrow, he starred in the suspense thriller "Secret Window" it was good movie, but some things were hard to figure out if they were really happening, like writing "shooter" many different times, going insane attacking his wife and did Johnny kill all the people and his dog and not even know it, because the stalker is not real. Mabye I have to see it again, well and it is a Steven King novel, his books are confusing or so I've heard. give this a try and see what johnny does for you in this more and more confusing thriller.
