 | Thanks to her starring role as Rachel on Friends, actress Jennifer Aniston has been afforded a movie career, beyond appearing in the B grade horror film Leprechaun from '93. The problem with being so identified with a tv character though, is that it can force you into playng only what's familiar most of the time. Don't get me wrong---Aniston was my favorite "Friend" if you will, but nearly all of the films that she has done during the show and since, have been only variations of her TV persona. Picture Perfect all but makes my point.
Life is anything but perfect for Kate Mosley (Aniston). For reasons she can't quite understand, the attractive and talented advertising director is having trouble advancing her career. Kate's boss, Mr. Mercer (Kevin Dunn), won't even consider her for a promotion because she is unattached, without responsibilities and, he fears, could subsequently leave the firm at any time. Then there is Kate's meddlesome mother (Olympia Dukakis), who wants nothing more than to see her daughter married. Despite her mother's pleas, Kate is frustrated by a seemingly endless series of dates from hell and sets her sights on co-worker Sam (Kevin Bacon). Unfortunately for Kate, Sam is only interested in women who are unavailable... Her best friend and co-worker, Darcy (Illeana Douglas), has come up with a plan to help Kate meet her goals. Darcy decides to take matters into her own hands by inventing a fictional fiancé for Kate. She even provides pictures of Kate with an attractive young man named Nick (Jay Mohr) as proof. Yet the truth is that Kate only just met Nick the previous week at the wedding of a mutual friend, where the fateful pictures were taken.
Directed by Glenn Gordon Caron, who knows a thing or two about office politics, having created TV's Moonlighting in the mid 80's plays everything by the numbers here. Co-writing the screenplay, Arleen Sorkin, Paul Slansky, and Caron keep the story very sitcom-esque. The only difference is that it takes almost two hours to solve the problem, rather than 22 minutes. The film has a very talented cast. As I said, Aniston is very funny with great sense about herself and not affraid to do physical comedy. But if you substitute the name Kate with Rachel, there's not much difference. I have always liked Douglas and Mohr too, but the conventions of the plot get in everyone's way. You pretty much know how it's gonna go after the first act.
The only extra on the DVD is the theatrical trailer. I don't really fault Aniston for staying in "Rachel" Mode here. At the time her show was going very well. Why upset the cart? My real beef is with the script. If you like Aniston, see the film but don't expect the story to be all that great. With Friends now a done deal, I'm hoping that Aniston will be able to break free and challange herself. She has the talent and time to take more risks. |

 | PICTURE PERFECT is a fun romantic comedy starring Jennifer Aniston. She's having an office romance with Sam (Kevin Bacon) who likes to have no string affairs. She wants to advance in her advertising job, and to do so her friend lies and says she is engaged to this guy who she met at a wedding and got photographed with. His name is Nick (Jay Mohr). When her boss wants to meet him she has to find him and get him to play with the ruse. She becomes very manipulative and there's a few twists and turns along the way. Aniston was really good in this movie. A nice romantic comedy. |

 | That's the problem with early Jennifer Aniston movies (not now, obviously, since it's finished, duh), you can always match the hairstyle to the series of Friends. I'm taking a wild guess and saying this was filmed between series three & four. I think. (Does this give me an excuse to watch them again?!)
Jennifer Aniston takes the role of a person who is willing to do anything just to get a guy - anything?! I know, so many options, so little time. Doing this, she must break another guy's heart. Aw, what a shame. It's been done before in these kinda movies, it's nothing new. And you wanna know what the worst thing is? The guy she wants, is Kevin Bacon, who only sleeps with women who are otherwise attached, to other men. Talk about a commitment-phobe! And the other, who's heart she breaks, is Jay Mohr. Yes I know, that's what I said, who? Between these two guys, neither of them has one iota of cute guy-ness. And one is Kevin Bacon. Enough to spook me out after his performance in Hollow Man. An unforgettable performance in my eyes. One that will haunt me for the rest of my life.
If it wasn't for Friends, then I'm guessing Jennifer Aniston wouldn't have much luck in Hollywood, and she may not have caught Brad Pitt's eye. Who knows. You can watch each series of Friends (now THERE'S something to do next time my boyfriend threatens to put on Indiana Jones) and see how much her fashion sense, and makeup get better. Two or three years after Friends, her style leaves little to be desired. None of her movies have been that outstanding, although The Good Girl comes pretty close but in my eyes she's done better than the rest of the Friends cast put together (Lost In Space anyone?)
The storyline may be slightly dodgy, but you can't fault Jennifer Aniston in it. True, she's Rachel, but she has been in nearly all the movies she's done, and her and all the Friends cast will always be known for their characters. Now if I could just find Object Of My Affection for a decent price, I'd be happy. |

 | I love to see her play leading roles in these types of movies. Jennifer looks absolutely gorgeous is all the short skirts she wears in this film, but they fit her personality and beauty so well!! She certainly has the legs and used them to her advantage! Her acting ability was superb in Picture Perfect and she's certainly the star of the show. She can be serious and witty and very business like. Rather than get into the nitty gritty about the story, let's just say that I'd hightly recommend it to anyone wanting good entertainment on most any nights with lots of laughts and a story that stays with you. |

 | Jennifer Aniston stars in this romantic comedy and does a great job at her performance. I enjoyed her acting and the acting of Jay Mohr and Kevin Bacon, but the story line could have been better. It didn't really pull on my heartstrings like a lot of other romantic comedys out there. I would compare it to that teacher you had in Junior High, you know the one that taught health (a realitively unexciting class) who was a good teacher, but years down the line you can't quite remember her name. Well this is that movie...you love Jennifer Aniston, but years down the line you won't be able to remember if you've ever seen this movie, or you will remember seeing it, but not remember the plot. As it is, a good movie for what it's worth. Light and doesn't require a lot of thinking. I wouldn't suggest buying it, but renting might not be a bad idea. |
