SummaryIt could've been worse.....
Content
The Event Horizon wants to kill you. It doesn't want to kill you like "Ghost Ship", Ghost Rig" or, god forbid, "Ghost Ship of the Blind Dead"(a.k.a. Zombie Flesh Eater), it actually wants to scare the piss out of you, humiliate you, then disembowel you. It wants you to think everyone else on the ship is out to get you, and they just might be.

The last time I saw it (sadly 6 years ago) I couldn't sleep for hours. I had to turn lights on not only in the room I was in but in the ajoining rooms AND stairwell. I have seen my share (and several others' share) of "scary" movies, and this is what it's all about. Even though the special effects were indeed awesome, they weren't used as a crutch to hold up an ailing film. I'm not really a sci-fi fan and I love this movie.

Those who don't give it at least 4 stars must find solace in movies like "While You Were Sleeping" and "You've Got Mail". Leave movies like Event Horizon to us, we can handle it.

SummaryOne star reviewers don't know the real meaning of terror.
Content
I'm not big on horror movies, especially since I'm an extremely cynical guy who's sense of reality will spoil any part of me being scared from the average horror movie. This isn't the case with Event Horizon, I've seen it many times and it still scares the s*** out of me (especially on a stormy night). The first time I saw Event Horizon, I was constantly scared, even in broad daylight!! I couldn't go to bed without thinking "Is Dr. Weir going to drag me out of my bed and disembowl me?"

Now to the movie, in 2040, Dr. Weir launches his ship named the "Event Horizon." It was built with an artificial gateway to allow it to travel from one end of the universe to the other. It's purpose was to reach Earth's nearest star. The mission went horribly wrong when the ship traveled to hell. Everyone aboard the ship died...all that was left was a bunch of frozen blood, guts, and skulls stuck to the walls of the ship's bridge. In 2047, the ship is found floating off Neptune's orbit, a search and rescue ship named the "Lewis and Clark" is dispatched to find out what happened. They bring the Event Horizon's creator Dr. Weir. Capt. Miller (Lawrence Fishburn) and the rest of the crue doesn't take kindly to Weir because they didn't want this mission. They board the Event Horizon and everything afterwards goes wrong. There's plenty of gruesome scenes, the scariest one is when Dr. Weir tears out his own eyes and kills DJ in a really, really horrific manner. I won't describe it because I don't want to spoil anything. That scene game me a temporary phobia of Sam Neill (who played Dr. Weir).

For the negative reviewers who though it was "stupid," apparently you don't appreciate science. For the negative reviewers who though it was too violent, what did you expect? It's rated R!! Did you think it was going to be Smurfs dancing in the fields picking flours? Infact, there should have been more violent scenes, to make hell an even scarier dimension. I might add that Event Horizon is even more terrifying in the fact that in the future, spaceships with artificial gateways will become a reality, for that reason, I'm not pursuing any careers involving space travel.

If you want to get scared s***less, watch this movie.

SummaryThis is a great movie!
Content
I may be an automatic fan of time travel/faster than light travel movies, but this film is great because of the idea behind it.

It really makes you think about what is actually happening. At times it may be violent, but that is the point of the whole film really, especially taking into consideration where the Event Horizon had been.

The film is well thought out, and is also helped by the believable explanation of how the ship travels, a good script and some really great acting add to the enjoyment of this film. There are some pretty good special effects too and I even like the music!

This film may not be appreciated by the novice sci-fi fan, but the advanced fan should like it. An interesting theme which runs throughout the course of the movie actually hits upon the Biblical. The unseen forces in the movie are basically the evil creatures known as demons that are invisible and cause havoc and mayhem for humans causing them to see things, hear voices and go crazy. You don't have to travel through an unknown dimension to encounter them though! Don't miss this really cool film.

SummaryWho's afraid of the big black hole?
Content
The Flying Dutchman flies again. What the Ancient Mariner forgot to tell us. Monty Python crew the Ship of Hell. What happened in this movie? Who can tell? Suddenly they were in their space suits, and suddenly they weren't. Suddenly they were ice lollies, suddenly they defroze. The geography of this ship was not easy to get a fix on. The black hole making machine was quite something. Well, now we know that hell is chaos, a place where nothing makes sense. I wasn't frightened, but I could tell that there was something funny going on. Perhaps that's why half the customer reviews are so hilarious. It's difficult not to give this flick five stars.

SummaryIntriguing Idea Loses Orbit
Content
I was so intrigued by the premise of this movie that I ordered the screenplay and read it to see if I could find out what went wrong.
To be perfectly honest, I suspected Hollywood shot itself in the foot again: you had a story where a spaceship accidentally journeys into Hell and returns--bringing back some of the infernal realm with it.
Except people in Hollywood don't believe in Hell. They don't even want to be suspected of ever believing in Hell, so they must remove all references to Hell.
(If you think this sounds crazy, don't: I have the original screenplay of FLATLINERS, and the filmmakers--and one actress--totally destroyed one of the best screenplays I've ever read for the same reasons I'm citing here).

I found a couple of lines in the script where the characters say Hell...but they were removed from the movie. So the main premise is left unsaid...and unexplored. The movie ends up degenerating into a slasher-type gore-fest, which is unfortunate because the acting and the production values are top notch.

But don't go crazy and call it Hell.
Somebody might go and believe it....
