Summaryoops, wrong movie
Content
I was wanting the older version of this movie and bought this by mistake. I was, quite frankly, shocked at what was in this movie, with the excessive nudity, language etc; it went into the trash. The only positive thing is the musical score. I wanted to give it a minus 0 rating.

Ok, so this is not the classic 1942 version that relied heavily on imagination and creativity. So what? This update is a fairly entertaining B-movie for genre fans. What makes it entertaining is its innate weirdness. If you were to explain the premise of the movie in 30 seconds to someone, they'll look at you like you just dropped acid:

"So, this movie opens with this woman tied to a tree and a huge panther comes up to her, so you're lead to believe a beastiality incident occured. Then we jump to some years later and this young woman (Nastassia Kinski) comes home to her brother (Malcolm McDowell), who acts all strange around her like he's aroused, then he starts acting like a cat and wants to sleep with her, but she doesn't want him. He tells her she HAS to because she's like him: a cat person. But she's involved with another man, (John Heard), who's turned on by her passion."

Yeah. It's really bizarre, but the topics of beastiality and incest are not presented in a graphic manner. You see absolutely nothing and compared to the movies of today, this is not that offensive. This is an erotic-horror hybrid of strange that makes you think "What the hell am I watching?", yet somehow it entertains you. Worth a watch for horror fans.

The original movie "Cat People" was made in 1942. It was stunning, haunting and unique. Only 73 minutes long and in black & white it sends chills down your spine. Cat People (1942) had the castt of Simone Simon as the "femme fatale", Kent Smith, Tom Conway, Jack Holt and Jane Randolph. You might say Simone Simon was the original "catwoman". It was followed in 1944 with the sequel, "Curse of the Cat People" with Simone Simon, Kent Smith and Jane Randolph returning.
40 years later , "Cat People" was remade with a new cast, special effects with nudity and sexual situations.
Nastassia Kinski, fresh from her critically acclaimed role in "Tess" (1979), plays the virgin cat with Malcolm McDowell on the prowl.
Also in the cast: John Heard, Annette O'Toole, Ruby Dee, Ed Begley Jr and John Larroquette.
WARNING: If you have a pet cat at home, don't let them hear or see this film.
Lots of Bonus Features on this DVD.
Cat People (1982) isn't really that great a film, but I would suggest An AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON (1981).

its not really fair to give below 3 stars, most of the reviewers maybe are complaining that its out dated, yes its out dated bec. that film is done in 1983, but what if that film was done in the 90's were technology is much better, it could have been a blockbuster movie, as of what ive seen, its a great movie compare to those senseless thrillers in the 80's such as Freddy Krouger type of movies or friday the 13'th, where the killers hunt as many preys as they want without any reason. its difinitely a movie with brain. Plus nastassja is difinitely the most beautiful film actress ever and her extraordinary beauty fits so well in her character and malcolm mcdowell is the coolest villain that ive ever saw.
