Young Artist Award-winning actor Matthew Underwood is popular among teen TV viewers as Logan Reese, a rich jerk who thinks he's the hottest guy in world, on Nickelodeon's Emmy-nominated live-action teen sitcom starring Britney Spears' little sister Jamie Lynn Spears, "Zoey 101" (2005-2008).
The 5' 7" brown-haired, brown-eyed actor, who considers himself a girl magnet, has dated co-star Victoria Justice, and actress Malease Jow from the movies “Bratz 4 Real” and “Unfabulous.” He is currently single to focus on his career.
Childhood and Family:
In Fort Pierce, Florida, Matthew Dillon Underwood, nicknamed Matt, was born on April 23, 1990 to a mother named Patricia Underwood. He has a pair of twin brothers and one sister. He is cousins with country singer, Carrie Underwood.
Matthew, who has played tennis with The American Tennis Youth League, enjoys acting, dancing, sports, architecture, rollerblading, skateboarding, roller hockey, ice skating, rock climbing, skim boarding, surfing, barefoot water skiing, and collecting exotic pets. He also loves extreme sports and once having had a very close encounter with alligators while barefoot-waterskiing with his top 100 in the world ranked uncle in a canal in South Florida.
He likes to collect exotic pets. He has a one-year-old iguana named "Zim," a two-year-old spider named "E.L.F.," which means, Eight Legged Freak, a one-year-old Tokay Gecko named "Spot," a two-year-old cat named "GIR," and a twelve-week-old golden retriever named "Zeppelin." He also plays the drums and used to play the drums for the band, Team Awesome, before they split.
Matthew, who has been playing chess since age six, recently has a growing interest in architecture, which he practices by designing houses with a special computer program.
Due to his blossoming acting career, Matthew started homeschooling at age eleven. As of 2007, he lives in California along with his mother and brother, while his other brother and sister still live in Florida. Matthew is very close friends with his “Zoey 101” co-stars Victoria Justice and Erin Sanders.
At the age of six months, Matthew Underwood has become on the spotlight while winning beauty and talent competitions in and around his hometown of Ft. Pierce, Florida. By the age of two, he has done runway modeling, photo shoots for local print ads, and dancing in The Show Biz Kidz Dance Group.
When he was on the first grade, Matthew took a short hiatus from his acting career to join the advanced gifted class in one of the country's most highly respected public schools, Lincoln Park Academy. He has been a member of the Theatre for a Difference since the very first week he moved to California. There, he worked on the sound and lights division in several stage productions. Matthew, who once participated in a traveling company that performed The Nutcracker Ballet, is now the Assistant Teacher of the Children's Theatre Program at the Rose Alley Theatre in Venice.
In 1999, When he was 9 years old, Matthew served as additional voices in "Hôhokekyo tonari no Yamada-kun" (aka. "My Neighbors the Yamadas"), an anime film directed by Isao Takahata. Two years later, at age 12, he made his film debut in director Jose H. Garofalo's family movie, "The Wishing Stone" (2002). That same year, he also landed a role in the TV series "Go for It!"
2004 saw Matthew as a child in the straight-to-video released family movie "The Marionette" and in the pilot episode of FOX sitcom starring rappers Method Man and Redman, "Method & Red."
The following year proves to be Matthew's breakout year when he snagged the role of Logan Reese, a rich jerk who is constantly flirting with almost all the girls at PCA (Pacific Coast Academy), on Nickelodeon's Emmy-nominated live-action teen sitcom starring Britney Spears' little sister Jamie Lynn Spears, "Zoey 101." He stayed on the show since 2005 to 2008 and won two Young Artist Awards for Best Young Ensemble Performance in a TV Series (Comedy or Drama) in 2006 and 2007.
During his "Zoey 101" stint, Matthew starred in the TV show "E-Venture Kids" (2005) and voiced Thatch in the made-for-television movie "Casper's Scare School" (2006). He also co-starred with Kristy Landers and Ashley Rickards in Chelsea Vance's 29-minute short film "Web Journal Now" (2006) and provided his voice in a 2007 episode of Nickelodeon's Emmy award-winning animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
Additionally, he was offered the role of Troy Bolton in the DCOM "High School Musical," but he had to turn it down because of his contract with Nickelodeon. He also has done commercials such as Reese's Puffs.
