Saturday Night Live
Comedian and actress Nancy Walls, also credited as Nancy Carell, worked on “Saturday Night Live” from 1995 to 1996 and as a correspondent on “The Daily Show” from 1999 to 2002. The former member of the Second City troupe also appeared in several episodes of “The Office” (2005-2010; as Carol Stills) and starred as Helen Goode on the animated TV series “The Goode Family” (2009). Her film credits include “Anger Management” (2003), “The 40 Year Old Virgin” (2004) and “Bridesmaids” (2011).
Walls has been married to comedian and actor Steve Carell since 1995.
Childhood and Family:
The daughter of Robert and Carol Walls, Nancy Ellen Walls was born on July 19, 1966, in Cohasset, Massachusetts. She attended Boston College, where she joined the comedy group My Mother's Fleabag.
In 1995, Nancy married Steve Carell (born August 16, 1962), whom she met at a Second City workshop that Carell was teaching. They have two children, Elisabeth Anne Carell (born May 25, 2001) and John Carell (born June 2004).
The Daily Show
Nancy Walls began her comedy career in college when she became a member of the improve comedy troupe My Mother's Fleabag at Boston College. After graduating, she joined Chicago's legendary Second City. Her career gained a further boost when she was recruited as a cast member on the NBC popular sketch comedy series “Saturday Night Live” in the mid 1990s. While on the show (1995-1996), she was best remembered for her impression of CNN anchor Bobbie Battista.
In 1998, Walls made her episodic debut appearance in an episode of “LateLine.” The following year, she appeared with other comedians like Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter and David Wain in the VH1 series “Random Play.” It was also in that year that Walls joined the Comedy Central TV news program “The Daily Show” as a correspondent. She was on the show until 2002.
After leaving “The Daily Show,” Walls made her film debut in “Anger Management” (2003), a slapstick comedy starring Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson that was directed by Peter Segal and written by David Dorfman. The next year, she was featured as a health clinic counselor in the hit comedy “The 40 Year Old Virgin” (2004), which starred her husband Steve Carell, who also co-wrote and co-produced the film with director Judd Apatow.
In 2005, Walls landed the recurring role of Carol Stills, a real estate agent and former girlfriend of Michael Scott, on the American version of “The Office,” starring Steve Carell as Michael Scott. Two years later, she guest starred in an episode of “The Naked Trucker and T-Bones Show.” In 2009, Walls provided the voice of Gerald's wife, Helen Goode, on the animated sitcom “The Goode Family,” which ran on ABC from May 27 until August 7, 2009.
Walls recently appeared in the comedy movie “Bridesmaids,” which was directed by Paul Feig and starred Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Rose Byrne. The film was released in summer 2011.
