SummaryThere Is Nothing "Magical" About This Movie!!!
Content
This movie stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. With the two most popular female stars in Hollywood you would think that they could have made a halfway decent film but sadly this does not happen. Sandra and Nicole are two witches whose main purpose and goal in life seems to be TO FIND A MAN!!!Sandra plays the homebody whle Nicole is the free spirited one whose taste in men is so lousy that she only lets a man "hit her once"!!!No doubt in her later years she will grow to be a "Professional Victim". I give this movie 5 stars because I kind of like the look of the town where this movie was filmed.

SummaryWhat a Gem of a Movie!
Content
I saw this movie a few years ago and recently re-rented it and it was even better the second time around! Sweet without being sickening, it focuses on the coming of age of two sisters that happen to be witches. Living with their two eccentric aunts (played wonderfully by two of my favorite actresses, Stockard Channing and Diane Wiest) they grow up rather....eccentric. Children taunt them for being witches but that makes their bond grow that much more.

This is a very touching movie that leaves you feeling hopeful. This is not a ridiculous movie about witchcraft like The Craft, but in watching it, you start to believe in witches yourself. The soundtrack is fabulous also, I ordered it and listen to it whenever I need a mental boost.

As to the book, I would recommend reading the book before seeing the mvoie. I made the mistake of seeign the movie first and was so disappointed with Alice Hoffman's novel. Do not expect the closeness of the two sisters in the movie to be that way in the book! In fact it will break your heart.

But all in all, rent/buy/borrow this movie if you can and invite your closest girlfriends over. Drink a margarita or two and enjoy!

SummaryGreat movie, poor format: Why only widescreen?
Content
The movie itself is great and I give it five stars.
I give 2 stars to the company that produced the DVD.
The widescreen version seems to be a trimmed version of
the fullscreen. It should be simply and exactly stated on the box if it is the original widescreen version or a modified
widescreen version. Why wasn't the full screen version released.
Why is it that some companies feel that they have to release
two versions of the same movie (Widescreen and fullscreen)and sell them seperately. You can get many entire seasons of TV shows on DVDs for what it costs to by two movies. For the price of movies, both formats should be sold in one set. Some companies such as Columbia Tristar include both a widescreen and full screen format. This makes sense and gives us more for our money and makes all consumers happier. I recommend that other companies follow their example, after all a lot of us have both vhs and dvd copies of the same movies.

SummaryWhat was the point of this film?
Content
I, like my wife, was looking forward to seeing this movie due to all the hype surrounding it. However, I have to say that I spent the first 20 mins waiting for the film to start, then the remainder of the film for a plot to become clear. To be honest, I should have given up after the first 20 mins.

The dialogue in this film is tripe - just pointless and contrived. There is no demonstrable character development, especially of the aunts, and the result is that I really didn't care whether any of them lived or died.

The, ahem, "horror" element consisted of a toad vomiting a signet ring (ooh scary) and frankly their treatment of a Satanic ritual, as one reviewer put it, like a Tupperware party, was truly ridiculous.

I have given this move 1 star, because Amazon does not provide a facility for negative stars. Avoid.

Summarymmmm
Content
i like the feel of this movie. And i like the scenere... i think Kidman and Bullock does wonderful jobs in it.. and Goran Visnjic... sally and Gillian are 2 sisters, who grew up with their aunts.(played by Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest), they moved in with them after their parents past away. their aunts where very unconventional and had few rules for the girls as they grew up. and as they grow up the two girls become very different. Gillian(Who runs away as a teenage girl) is the party girl and Sally the responable mom. in the movie we get to follow them as Gillian and sally come together, again... (this movie is based on the Book by the same name, which is written by Alice hoffman, if you love to read, love the movie, and haven't read it, then it's highly recomentable, though be prepeard that it's not like the movie... )
