 | Wow!!! One of my top 100 movies. Paul Newman plays the dark humored Butch Cassidy and Robert Redford plays the grimmly straight Sundance Kid.
Butch and Sundance were famous train robbers from the early 20th century on the edge of the last hey day of the truly wild west. The Union Pacific Railroad hired a select group of lawmen to hunt down and kill or capture. (Let's be honest Kill) The two Outlaws. The Outlaws were never heard from again. Some believe that they went to Bolivia and were killed by the Bolivian Army.
This movie tracks the final days of Butch and Sundance. Uproariously funny. No matter how dark the sitiuation, these two outlaws manage to drop a darkly humorous line. This is the kind of movie that you and your friends will quote often. A tad violent for children, but on the upside no cussing. I highly recommend this movie. |

 | What can u say when u look into the gorgeous eyes of Newman and the sexy blue of Redfords and add some of the funniest dialogue between 2 friends that would DIE FOR EACH OTHER There is not another western, drama, action-whatever catagory u want to put it in that can beat it. Ladies, you have two of the machoest men in movies along with a great script u will love it. And I'm not a western fan. I am a horsewoman and boy, they can sit a horse!! When Sundance asks, when his skill as a gunman is tested. "Can I move?" (after having to shoot a coin laying about 50 feet away and failing dismally) then giving the go ahead. blasts that coin all over Bolivia, u want him to move and enjoy every minute of this otherwise serious man. "I do better when I move" Too many scenes to pick from but one while Butch is entwined in the arms of Cloris Leachman good old Sundance runs right over the bed and them to warn Butch the men that have been trailing them are outside. Good thing Butch had his boots off.Watch and see why. And guys you'll roar at how 2 Wanted Dead or Alive bandits live their lives and love it. I know they got away, even from the entire Bolivian army, and wish I knew how they lived out the rest of their days!! You can bet they had fun! And your kids can watch it. |

 | Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is one of those critic-proof movies. Every critic hated it at the time it was released - Pauline Kael wrote an especially nasty one. Yet it was a tremendous hit at the box office and has since gone on to become a sort of classic. (Obviously, Robert Redford names his film festival after it).
It tells the partly true story of two outlaws in the Old West. They are pretty successful until the owner of the railroad they keep robbing hires a "superposse" to hunt them down. They decide to flee to Bolivia and take up robbery there.
I think that, if the movie had been released now, it would have received favorable reviews. Paul Newman and Robert Redford are a great pair for buddy movies. There is lots of clever dialogue. The problem is that the film derails half-way through with a 27-minute long chase sequence that tends to drag on the re-viewing. Still, it's entertaining enough.
I don't know if there are enough extras on this DVD to be considered a "Special Edition." They mainly consist of interviews with the cast and crew from 1994.

 | When you see this movie there is a phrase that comes to your mind: Man, they don't do movies like this one anymore!. These are two bandidos that assault the same train twice in a row. The owner of the train puts a price to their head and sends the ultimate vigilante team to hunt down Sundance and his fella.
They get tired of being followed so they decide to go to another country, Bolivia. Once they get there accompanied with a beatiful woman they realize that maybe Bolivia is not the way they thought it would be.
What makes this movie so different from other westerns is its humor, including their infamous:
Cassidy: Manos a---, manos a---, manos arriba...
Sundance: They got them up! skip on down
C: Arriba!
S: Skip on down!!!
C: Todos ustedes arrÃsmense(sic) a la pared!
S: They're against the wall already!!!
C: Donde... ah, you're so damn smart, you read it!!!
If you speak spanish, this will be hilarious, man I laughed to tears in that scene. The movie has a lot of immortal lines that have been quoted by other users, so it would be a big mistake if you don't see this movie.
The DVD includes some really cool extras like interviews with the main actors, an audio commentary from director George Roy Hill and other fellas, the production notes, original trailers (thought they're not as silly as the ones included in The Seven Magnificent) and an alternative beginning! (It's the first time I see something like this). Definitively a must buy!. |

 | The initial shots with the nervous camera, showing the adventures of these original criminals, constitute a visible homage to the Train Great Robe: the initial seed of the cinema: when the movie was born in 1897.
The enormous and everlasting attractive of this masterpiece, resides in the happy blending of action, and comedy. It just a nostalgic gaze about two outlaw, wanderers, Butch and his fellow friend Sundance Kid, who goes from town to town, making the best they can.
Butch's great project is Bolivia, his personal paradise, far from the madding crowd.
This amazing portrait, this charming and even candied vision of the world in the last days of the XIX century , agree totally with let's say the landscape of the Wild Bunch, where the main values had a clear counter flow direction with the rules of the establishment: easy money through the minimum effort.
This film is not only an exultant gaze to the life but besides, another unexpected angle vision about the classical bad guy stereotype: humor. They own good taste, even they are lovable and charismatic: Redford and Newman had never been best: they established an immediate rapport in camera, that allowed to win three years later in The Sting under the service of the same Roy Hill.
A true American icon!
