 | Over the Top ruled! Lincoln Hawk is a down on his luck big rig trucker who tries to impress his wussy son with the powers of big riggin and arm wrestling. Unfortunatly, Hawk's mean father in law wants custody of the boy so Hawk has to get the Arm Wrestling First Prize money to win him back. Someone should have told him though that ramming a semi-truck through a house does not look good in court. A word of warning however, there are approximatly 600 mullets in this movie but Sly himself doesn't have one, so he has to compinsate by turning his hat backwards, which is the international sign of (A--) kickery. One of the better parts of the movie, (and most confusing) is when his son tries to escape his big rig truck and runs into highway traffic. Hawk catches him and grabs the child as he tries to struggle. It looks very, very bad and if I were a motorist and saw what was going on, I would call the authorities toot suite. Other then the cheesy 80's Pop and the pointless arm wrestler interviews this movie rocks.

 | Forget Rocky. Forget Rambo. Forget Marion Cobretti. What really put Stallone on the map in my opinion is "Over the Top." This movie is a true inspiration.
I sometimes wonder if this movie was based on a true story. IT'S JUST THAT GOOD. I remember when I was a kid watching this movie. Every time I watched this movie, I wished Stallone was MY dad. I still do. He would not only be the coolest and best-looking dad ever, but he would also be rich. (The only drawback being that he would have named me something like "Sage Moonblood" or "Seargeoh" instead of just "Clint", but that would still be cool. I wouldn't have to make up a name for when I play Dungeons and Dragons - I could just use my real name instead.)
In this movie, the cool truck-driving dad teaches his young snot-nosed brat kid how to be a REAL man through arm-wrestling. Plus, it features a giant semi driving through the front of a house. Could anything be cooler than that? I don't think so. I mean, what else could anybody want in a movie anyway?
I thought it was really neat how Stallone, a.k.a. Hawke, turned his hat around when he was really about to lay the arm-wrestling smack down. And the slow-motion arm wrestling scenes were really intense! I've probably watched this movie about 16 times so far, and each time I have found myself wondering if Hawke is really going to win. (Of course he does, but it makes the movie more exciting to watch over and over again if you pretend that you don't know!)
Lots of times after I watched this movie, I would challenge my friends in school to a great Arm-Wrestling Duel. I would make sure that I wore my hat that day. I would challenge the big kid who made fun of me for having a wadded-up paper towel in my underwear (a little personal problem of mine), and would get ready to kick some... I would wait until he had my arm almost all the way down, and then I would turn my hat around backwards. Unfortunately, that never seemed to work for me like it did in the movie. I always got beat anyway (and then they'd give me a wedgie just for good measure).
So that was disappointing, but I never lost my faith that one day the hat trick would work for me. I just chalked it up to Stallone not being on my team - not "having my back", so to speak. So even today so many years later, I try to solve my disputes through a good friendly arm-wrestling match. It's a great way to make friends, and it helps you to solve problems with your boss and the wife, too. I give Sylvester Stallone credit for teaching us this Peace Through Arm-Wrestling technique. In fact, it's more than a technique. It's a way of life.
Stallone, you're my Hero. You've put me OVER THE TOP!!! |

 | Let me just start off by saying what the hell is wrong with movie studios nowadayz? It took Warner Bros. this long to release the greatest movie of all time... Give me a break! Warner Bros. will re-release movies in 5 different editions but we Over the top fans can't get a single bare bones release? Anyway I'll stop my complaining because its Finally here. This has to be one of Stallone's most underated movies of all time. Stallone is probably the only person who can make a movie about arm wrestling and make it just as exciting as a Rocky or Rambo flick. This movie has it all, pressure, failure, love, and trust. This is deff. a good father and son bondage movie too. Stallone basically arm wrestles at local bars to make some sweet dough, he finally realizes he has a talent and should take his arm wrestling career alot further than anyone could imagine. So what does he do? He enters an arm wrestling competition to win a new truck and his son goes along with him too. He inspires Stallone to become the baddest, roughest, pugnacious monster alive. Great action great acting....Even though we did get a dvd release, the extras are pretty poor, a decent trailer is all you get, I was deff. expecting a Stallone commentary or possible a behind the scenes would of been nice. Well at least its in a nice anamorphic widescreen! |

 | This movie came out when I was in high school and I really liked it then and I was happy to see that it was out on dvd. My favorite movie by Stallone is still the first Rambo movie which is just great but this one also belongs in my dvd collection as well. Also check out his new book called Sly Moves it's a very interesting read. |
