 | worst opening sequence of a movie ever conceived..you kill off a female character in the first 10 minutes...and she didn't even do anything to deserve it?! The only way to do this movie justice would be to parody...oops, been there done that. |

 | Renny Harlin directs this suspenseful action film starring Sylvester Stallone who's a burned out mountain climber/rescuer. The film has a smooth fast moving plot complemented with a good script and the outstanding acting talents of John Lithgow who always makes a better villain than hero.
U.S. Treasury agents are hijacked in mid-air by a professional team of bond thieves. Something goes wrong however and the plane crashes in the Rockies in Sly's/Rambo's backyard. The bad guys want their money and Sly's friends start to die: taking him out of his guilt-ridden slumber to take revenge on the ring's head honcho played by John Lithgow.
This is a good action film with a clever screenplay and a good script. John Lithgow is great as always and even Stallone makes a convincing effort. There are plenty of chases, shootings, and of course mountain climbing adventures in this action packed film. A great action film to watch. |

 | I first saw this movie when it was in theaters, and even on this second viewing, I found myself on the edge of my seat in the opening sequence. Director Renny Harlin gives us a breathtaking, ultimately horrific, scene in which a young inexperienced climber fights for her life, and loses. From this point on, CLIFFHANGER maintains that sense of dizzying tension and is one of Sylvester Stallone's best movies. With gorgeous scenery and awesome "cliffhanging" sequences, CLIFFHANGER never lets up and is a pure adrenaline rush. Stallone does well, as does his supporting cast: John Lithgow (whom I will never forgive for killing Nancy Allen in Blowout); Craig Fairbass as the psychotic soccer player; Rex Linn as the repulsive Travers; Janine Turner as the lovely love interest; Michael Rooker as the onetime friend of Stallone's, and of course, Michelle Joyner as Sarah, whose plea for Stallone to save her life is as gutwrenching as ever. For pure testosterone thrills, CLIFFHANGER is still one of the best. |

 | Stallone is over the top in this thriller, tons of in depth storyline, cold weather flight, and high rise stakes, this movie has it all! You have to see this if you have not, a great Action flick! Tons of bad guys!
In Cliffhanger, Sylvester Stallone plays Gabe Walker, a member of a mountain-climbing rescue team. Gabe is haunted by an incident from his past when he couldn't save the girlfriend of his best friend, Hal Tucker (Michael Rooker), from falling to her death. As the story begins, Gabe has left mountain-climbing rescue work and has set up business in Denver. He returns to the mountain rescue office to persuade his lover, Jessie (Janine Turner), to quit and come back to Denver with him. While he is begging Jessie to head out to Denver, things are happening in the skies overhead.
A gang of professional crooks headed by psychotic Eric Qualen (John Lithgow) has hijacked a U.S. Treasury plane carrying millions of dollars. But the plane crashes, and the bad guys find themselves stranded on top of a mountain with the money (put into three cases) scattered around the wreckage and with no way to get down off the pinnacle to retrieve the cases. They put in a phony distress call that is received by the mountain rescue team.
Gabe agrees to take part in one last rescue attempt, and they head up to help rescue the thieves. But Qualen has plans for the rescuers - to force them to climb through the dangerous snow-covered peaks to find the three suitcases of cash. |

 | Cliffhanger came out in 1993 after a series of flops that filled Stallone's career. This was generally well recieved by critics, and grossed a good 84 million in the United States. The movie was nominated for about six Razzie Awards, which I think it doesn't deserve, because this movie was great from beginning to end. John Lithgow played a great villian, who was cold, and sadistic. Rex Linn was very good as Travis, and so was Ralph White, except for that part at the beginning where he was laughing as the girl was falling. Overall, a good solid sction movie |
