SummaryI LOVED THIS MOVIE!
Content
I loved this movie! I thought Vanessa Williams looked stunning as the jaded dance instructor who had sworn off men till an incredibly handsome new custodian walks into the studio and straight into her heart. The custodian is played wonderfully by newcomer (as an actor that is) chayanne. His kind, shy, boyish portrayal is engaging and likable and a joy to watch. Likewise almost all the supporting roles are well done. So why only four stars? You'll notice I said "almost" all the supporting roles were well done. There are two reasons. Kris Kristofferson (for the most part) and Joan Plowright. We'll start with Kristofferson who is badly miscast here. So much so that his crusty, surly, out of character portrayal nearly ruins the mood. At least everytime he's on camera. He's just plain awful. Maybe even embarrassing here. I never thought much of him as an actor and after seeing this movie I thought even less of him. Then there's Joan Plowright who is supposedly a great actress right? Wrong! Would a great actress overact the way she does here? What was she thinking. Better still why didn't the director do his job and bring her in line. I think sometimes these people become legends in their own minds and it rubs off on those around them and they think "she must be good.....who am I to tell her she's off"! Well anyway the movie works in spite of them. There's one very memorable scene where Williams almost dances out of her dress that will have men drooling. It's a very very hot scene. Look I hate to dance but just give me Vanessa Williams in a nurses outfit that is falling off and I'll be the first one on the dance floor doing a very bad John Travolta immitation! Great music, great dancing, georgeous leads, aw heck.....what else do you need.....buy it today!

SummaryDance 10, Story 3
Content
Overdone story line. Bad acting on Kristofferen's part and even if Chayanne is a hearthrob in Cuba or Latin America...he can't act.
His Spanish dialogue made him more believable that his English.
Vanessa Williams whom I love fell flat.

Great dance sequences in the salsa club and at the end. Otherwise the dance numbers were right out of Stictly Ballroom.

Story could have had more latin heat! ! ! As a latino myself, I wanted more heat and less of the tired old story line of boy meets girl. This could have been a wonderful "learn how to dance like a latino in heat" story! Not the bad love story it wanted to be.

Gave it 3 Stars for the DANCING...and 1 Star for the story and acting.

SummaryUndeniable
Content
I just love this film, and not as a guilty pleasure either. The emotions conveyed in this film are real, at least real enough for me. This film is loads of fun, simply glorious fun. I bought the love story hook, line, and sinker, and was willing to "work with" the aspects of the script that were obviously unrealistic. In the end they don't matter, and it would be nit-picking to harp on them. Vanessa Williams and Chayanne are about as hot an on-screen couple as existed in the 1990's, and Kris Kristofferson's performance is real, supportive, and meaningful.

A film that can capture the innocence and purity of love, as well as the dance and music that are such an integral part of it is a treasure. And this film is a treasure, a gloriously uplifting gem very badly needed these days. Everyone involved in this production should be very proud.
