SummaryI Loved It!
Content
I've read the novel and seen the movie. So far this rendition is my favorite. Where I do know that they slashed the orignal story-line to pieces, it still gave me enough enjoyment to give this 4 stars. I LOOOOVE old period movies and this is just what the doctor ordered. If you want to see the movie because it came from the storyline of the book, then this is probably not for you. But if you just love "old-time" setting movies (like me) then you just may like this. :)

SummaryMy Second Favorite Jane Eyre Movie!
Content
I see I'm in the minority here but I absolutely loved this movie, my favorite version of Jane Eyre is the movie with Ciarian Hinds but I saw this movie with William Hurt and I just fell in love with this version too and it's my second favorite. Very, very recommended!

SummaryI Think This Version is Superb!
Content
Jane Eyre is a superb classic novel by Charlotte Bronte and I must say that I hadn't seen this movie version of Jane Eyre before I bought this DVD so before I watched it I read the reviews here on Amazon and with all of the 1 and 2 star reviews and negative comments I got worried that I wasted my money on this DVD and that I wouldn't like the movie but I wound up liking the movie. William Hurt may not fit Charlotte Bronte's physical discription of Edward Rochester but I think he is a wonderful actor and he gave such a wonderful passionate performance and Charlotte Gainsbourgh was equally as good as Jane Eyre and the chemistry between them was magnetic and I highly recommend this DVD! I loved this movie and feel that I didn't waste money buying this DVD at all and this is definitely a keeper!

SummaryLovely!
Content
I haven't read the book yet so I can't compare the movie to the book but I watched this William Hurt/Charlotte Gainesbourg Jane Eyre movie and well I liked it. Okay I will admit that William Hurt's attempt at a British accent wasn't that good but I think his acting was great and I thoght there was tons of chemistry with him and his co-star Charlotte Gainesbourg. BTW: There are some people who don't seem to get it that the character of Jane is not susposed to be beautiful or ugly she is susposed to be plain. There is a big difference between someone being plain and someone being ugly and anyway I think beauty is in the beholder, and I actually find Charlotte to be pretty. Pretty in a more plain, unadorned type of way.

SummaryMagnificent!
Content
In my opinion it seems that most of the reviews by people who didn't like this movie was only because it's not the Timothy Dalton movie but I think all of the different movies have merit and this ones my personal favorite. I absolutely loved it! William Hurt is a magnificent Rochester and Charlotte Gainsburgh a magnificent Jane and the director Franco Zefferelli made a great movie! Some reviewers are claiming this is not true to Charlotte Bronte's book but I say that is absolute bull puckeys! I found this to be true to the book and this movie got rave reviews from the critics when it was released, including 2 thumbs up from Siskel and Ebert so this is not the flop that some people are trying to make it out to be! I recommend this movie and also the Dalton version!
